Media Type: Magazine, Publication Design
Scope: Art Director, Editor, Layout, Branding
Client: N/A
Challenge: I have worked as the head art director of the magazine Unlabeled. This is a magazine that I fully curated myself, and sourced the contents from photographers, designers, and writers that attend school with. Unlabeled was born from my love of the fashion industry and how I want to challenge and learn how creativity and art can break boundaries of societal norms. I was challenged in how to encapsulate this much content into a cohesive magazine that effectively conveys the important messages of gender fluidity, while still being a fun, engaging art form.
Solution: In knowing I wanted to create an informative publication, I took the time to do thorough research, but also talk with peers in the industry and learn what draws them to pick up a magazine. It was my goal to create a solely original magazine, made up of work that I admire from friends, that was honest and could push the limits of traditional publication design. I focused on experimental typography, as well as refining my color palette to allow the images to shine.
