Media Type: Branding/Merchandise Design, Advertisement
Scope: Branding, Illustration, Visual Merchandising
Challenge: The purpose of this assignment was to choose a typeface that interested us and had some significance to the world. I chose Glyphworld, designed by Leah Maldonado; that presented the emotions we feel when experiencing these nine different landscapes. A specific challenge I faced was how to create something that was exciting and appealing to look at and would make you want to purchase, but didn’t overpower the already intricate and complex typeface designs.
Solution: I took time to sketch out my design plan and illustrations for the can designs, and experimented with different compositions in Illustrator. I had the idea to create these tea flavors that would match well with the name of the typefaces and create illustrations to evoke the feeling and sensation of each flavor. In my design efforts it was always prevalent to ensure legibility, yet letting the design work speak and breathe.
